This Suite of ten of the most popular numbers from Perchance to Dream can be played instrumently or with voices, in the latter case, at perhaps a lower volume in places, at the discretion of the conductor. The choral arrangements to Love is my Reason, Highwaymen Love and We'll Gather Lilacs can be replaced by soloists as per the original, the choral parts to the remaining numbers being Ivor's own. Throughout, orchestrations are fuller than the original's pit orchestra and contain ideas from contemporary recordings.
Of all of Ivor Novello's hugely successful musicals, Perchance to Dream received the longest run of performances, 1022 in all, at the London Hippodrome, starting in April 1945. The smash hit was We’ll Gather Lilacs, which resonated with the feeling that the war in Europe was nearly over and that many were soon to be reunited with their loved ones after long absences. The song was published separately just before the musical was launched and Ivor was well aware that he might be able to match the success that Keep the Home Fires Burning had had in the Great War.
Choral scores are also available for SATB (GM519), SA+Men (GM520) and SSA (GM521).
A PACK includes a full score plus a full set of wind, brass and percussion parts plus strings 4/4/3/4/2.
The score also includes a synopsis of the somewhat complicated plot of the musical play!
