Dorothy Parke (1904-1990) was born in County Derry in Northern Ireland and studied piano and composition at the Royal Academy of Music in London, after which she settled in Belfast where she was a highly-regarded piano teacher. She wrote extensively for children, composing many songs and piano pieces that were used in musical competitions. Her compositional style is generally in the tradition of Stanford, Vaughan Williams and Howells; very approachable but distinctive and always effective; many of her settings acheive a real poignancy and considerable expressiveness.
The Short Fantasia on Christmas Carols was written in 1947 and exists in versions for piano duet (two players at one piano) and for two pianos (both published by Roberton Publications/Goodmusic) as well as this orchestral arrangement which is now published for sale for the first time, though it has previously been performed and broadcast on Radio 3 played by the Ulster Orchestra.
The carols used are "I saw three ships", "Holy Night", "The Holly and the Ivy", "Coventry Carol" and "When the crimson sun had set", this tune now better known as "Angels from the Realms of Glory".

A PACK includes a full score, string parts 4/4/3/4/2 and all wind, brass and percussion parts.
