ORCHESTRATION
Piccolo, 2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, Cor Anglais, 2 Clarinets in Bb, Bass Clarinet, 2 Bassoons, Contra Bassoon
4 Horns in F, 3 Trumpets in Bb, 3 Trombones, Tuba, Timpani
Percussion (3 players: Snare Drum, Xylophone, Triangle, Cymbals (clashed and suspended), Bongos, Bass Drum), Harp
Strings (Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, Bass)
A seascape scored for full symphony orchestra. A review in the York Evening Press of the first performance of this work said: "Blackford's Marinus concert overture, avowedly nautical, is cleverly constructed, a snappy, syncopated motif framing a gentler mood introduced by the cor anglais. Full-blooded low brass and sweeping strings unite both themes in a powerful conclusion. Instantly attractive, it was relished on both sides of the podium."
Duration 10 minutes
The audio file is NOT a computer-generated one but an actual recording of the work played by the Guildhall Orchestra of York conducted by Simon Wright
A PACK comprises one full score, all wind brass and percussion parts and string parts 4/4/3/4/2.
