Eine Kleine Nachtmusik Pack image
Orchestration: 2 Flutes (2nd optional), 2 Oboes (2nd optional), 2 Clarinets in Bb, Bass Clarinet in Bb (optional), Bassoon, 2 Horns in F, 2 Trumpets in Bb, Timpani
Strings (Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, Bass)

Probably Mozart’s best known work for strings, Eine kleine Nachtmusik (also titled Serenade No. 13 for strings in G major), K. 525, was completed in Vienna on 10 August 1787, around the time Mozart was working on the second act of his opera Don Giovanni. The German title means "a little night music". It was written for an ensemble of two violins, viola, cello and double bass, but is often performed by string orchestras.
In this arrangement, wind, brass and timpani are added but the string parts are as in Mozart’s original, except that an independent bass line is added, simplifying some sections. Some string phrases are written as cues and may be omitted when a wind section is present. The 2nd flute, 2nd oboe and bass clarinet are optional - the first two are written as simpler parts for less experienced players, the bass clarinet largely covers for the possible absence of a bassoon.
