Perpetual Motion: A Musical Joke was written in 1861. The joke is that when you get to the end you start at the beginning again and keep going round and round and never stop.
It is often eventually stopped by the conductor shouting out "enough!", or something similarly appropriate, preferably before the audience drops off to sleep, leaves or starts to turn nasty.

Original scoring was for Piccolo and 2 Flutes, but the 2nd flute had so little we have here incorporated it into the piccolo part. Strauss wrote the 1st Clarinet part for an Eb clarinet but if no Eb is available a transposed part for Bb Clarinet is also included. The percussion part could be played by one player as long as he/she can manage the very quick change from Glockenspiel to Triangle.
A PACK comprises an A4 sized full score plus a complete set of parts including strings 4/4/3/4/2.
Duration 3 minutes (played through once)
