Rachmaninov's celebrated Prelude in C# minor Op.3 No.2 was written for the piano and it was first performed by the composer on September 20, 1892 in Moscow which Rachmaninov considered his debut as a pianist. A review of the concert singled out the Prelude, noting that it had "aroused enthusiasm" and from this point on, its popularity grew.
This powerful piece is well-suited to performance by an orchestra and has been brilliantly orchestrated by Peter Lawson in the style of Rachmaninov. The key of the Prelude has been changed to D minor for this arrangement.
A PACK comprises an A4 sized full score plus a complete set of parts including strings 4/4/3/4/2.
Duration 3½ minutes
An orchestration of Rachmaninov's Prelude in G minor Op.23 No.5 by Peter Lawson is also available in this Goodmusic Concert Classics series - see GMCL192
