A carol for Christmas adapted from J.S.Bach’s "J0esu Joy of Man’s Desiring" with words by Peter Lawson, arranged for choir with orchestra or piano
Orchestration: 2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, 2 Clarinets in Bb, 2 Bassoons, 4 Horns in F (3 & 4 optional). 2 Trumpets in Bb, 3 Trombones, Tuba, Timpani
Strings (Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, Bass)
Choir (SATB or SA+Men or SSA or TTBB)
This is a fifth carol with words written to match well-known tunes from the classical repertoire, in this case, the much-loved Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring from Bach’s Cantata Herz und Mund unt Tet und Leben (Heart and Mouth and Deed of Life), BW147. Bach’s original is for Trumpet, Violin and Basso Continuo, with optional Oboe and Viola. In this arrangement, modern-day conventional orchestral forces are employed, with either soloists, or small groups of singers, relating the story of the birth of Jesus to the tune of the famously attractive melody, which weaves around the stanzas of the hymn (full chorus). As an alternative to orchestral accompaniment, the carol can be performed with piano or organ. Peter Lawson
Duration 3½ minutes
A PACK includes a full score plus a full set of wind, brass and percussion parts plus strings 4/4/3/4/2
Choral parts are sold separately: SATB = GM522, SA+Men = GM523, SSA = GM524, TTBB = GM525
