DECO DELIGHTS for clarinet and harp
Goodmusic GM526
Three pieces inspired by 1920s Jazz Age dance music, specially arranged for clarinet and harp in 2025 for harpist Rachel Talitman.
1. HARPING ON: This minor key foxtrot is a considerably expanded version of a piece first published in my Jazz-n-Jive lever harp book.
2. COCKTAIL BLUES: In 2010 the New Zealand National Jazz Festival commissioned me to score a programme of short silent movies from the NZ Film Archive. Each film was introduced by a song, often tongue-in-cheek in nature. This smoochy little number was one of them. It also forms a movement of Decospherics, a suite of Jazz Age dances for harp, and is dedicated to my wife Sharon who sang it so seductively in Jazz at the Movies.
3. SILENT MOVIE RAG: An arrangement of another movement of Decospherics. This one began forming in my head as I queued in a bank in New Zealand during one of the world-famous Napier Art Deco Festivals at which my wife and I regularly performed programmes of 1920s popular songs. Paul Lewis
