TWO SOLILOQUIES for trio

Two musical love letters written for harpist Elizabeth Jane Baldry in 1997 and released for publication in 2018.
1. LINGERINGLY LANGUID
Coolly neo-classical with moments of heightened emotion.
2. CARESSINGLY
Built upon two three-note motifs representing the initials of dedicatee and composer. Using an extended musical alphabet in which the initials EJB become the notes ECB, the defining notes of a C major seventh, the composer’s favourite chord, and PRL becomes BDE, the two motifs, almost the exact mirror images of one another, are interlaced like the initials in a lovers’ knot on a Tudor betrothal ring.
Duration 8½ minutes
The composer made this trio arrangement (for Flute [or Violin], Viola and Harp) for the Aurora Trio in September 2018.
