Elastic scoring for two soprano birbynes (or clarinets), harpsichord (or piano) and optional string trio.
Honey Gathering Song was composed during January to March 1989 as music for a dance by Gill Clarke For the Off, and first performed in London in March 1989. It was revised in December 1999 and the first concert performance was given on 28 April 2000 in the Beethoven Room, Grahamstown, South Africa by Anne La Berge (flute) and Michael Blake (piano).
This version for two soprano birbynes and harpsichord was made at the request of Darius Klisys during a stay in the St Casimir Monastery in Vilnius in the summer of 2013. It was first performed on 7 September 2013 in the Marijampole Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lithuania.
The elastic version with optional string trio was again made at the request of Darius Klisys, this time for a short concert tour of Lithuania. The first performance took place on 8 October 2016 in Marijampole with Darius Klisys and Algirdas Jademskij (birbynes), members of the Chordos Quartet, and the composer playing the harpsichord.
Wind instruments with similar range to the soprano birbyne such as clarinets or soprano Saxophones may be substituted, but always in matching pairs.
