The Leaves Be Green for two Guitars
Prelude - Dance - Recitative I - Song and Dance - Recitative II - Fugue
This piece is variations on two British folk songs. Firstly, 'Browning' or ‘The Leaves Be Green’ famously used by William Byrd in his 5-part consort and was the theme music to the BBC TV series Elizabeth R and secondly, the folk song ‘The Trees They Grow So High’.
It is also dedicated to the artistry of the late John W. Duarte a prolific composer for the guitar and lover of English Folk Song.
The first performance was given by the Baudino/Vannini Guitar Duo on 27 April 2024 at St Lawrence’s Church, South Walsham, Norwich. The Duo has also edited and fingered their respective parts for this publication.
