Bryan Davies
An accompanist and arranger from Ferndale, Rhondda, Bryan Davies was one of Wales’ foremost musicians. He was a teacher for over thirty years and took early retirement in 1998. In 1989 he was contracted to the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama as a vocal and instrumental coach in which capacity he accompanied at Masterclass given by, among others, Dennis O’Neill, Brigitte Fassbender, Wen Zhou Li and Raphael Wallfisch. During a long and distinguished career as an accompanist, Bryan played for, amongst others, Gwyneth Jones, Stuart Burrows, Bryn Terfel, Robert Lloyd and Donald McIntyre, as well as for all of Wales’s leading choirs. His many arrangements have proved popular with choirs and audiences alike and have been favourably reviewed in music journals on both sides of the Atlantic. Not surprisingly, for a son of the Rhondda, he made an especially notable contribution to the repertoire of the Welsh male choir. He died in 2011.
