PETER LAWSON Orchid Pieces

As well as a musician, Peter Lawson is a keen amateur botanist with a special interest in orchids. He has photographed all 48 of the wild orchids of the UK and since 1981 he has been writing musical portraits of each of these, a task completed in 2018. They are all published by Goodmusic (some appear in more than one version hence there are more than 48 titles listed!). Each portrait attempts to depict the nature of that particular orchid its colour, habitat, character and always the song that it might sing. Detailed notes in each work explain the features of these aural portraits. The pieces are generally of an advanced standard, many having been commissioned by international professional soloists and chamber groups. In 2022 Peter found that two more orchids needed to be represented so added "Song of the Summer Lady's Tresses Orchid" and "Song of the Greater Tongue Orchid" which brings the total to 50!
