Julian Davies(1951-)
Julian Davies comes from Stourbridge in the West Midlands where, encouraged by his parents and with the aid of a toy xylophone, he took to writing music at an early age. When he eventually managed to enrol as a music student at Aberystwyth University he found teachers and contemporaries who were happy to help him with his compositions. Orchestration lessons with Ian Parrott proved particularly enlightening but not without pain as the distinguished teacher applied red pen to Julian's exercises with monumental liberality!
Subsequently Julian has taught music (and, at various times, other subjects) at Lancaster Royal Grammar School. He has written music for school use, some of which has been aired as far away as Hamburg and Vienna. More recently Julian has been busy composing and arranging light music for Morecambe's Promenade Concert Orchestra to which he also makes a modest contribution on the viola!
