Judy Whitlock(b.1961)
Judy Whitlock is a classically trained musician based in Cornwall who composes in a range of styles - for orchestra as well as smaller instrumental and vocal ensembles, and solo piano. Born in 1961 in Leicestershire and with a Music Degree from Durham University and a PGCE from Cambridge, Judy moved to Cornwall in 1983 to begin a long teaching and performing career. After gaining an M.A. in Music for Film and TV in the ‘90s, she has built a reputation locally as a composer. She has had pieces commissioned and performed by the renowned Plymouth Symphony Orchestra (where she leads the Double Bass Section), Abbey Brass Quintet and East Cornwall Bach Choir, among others. Judy, who lives in Looe, is also well-known in the region as a classical, jazz and tango double bassist, jazz singer, pianist, flautist and secondary school head of music (now retired!).
