Jayne Davies(d.2015)
Born in Pontnewydd, Gwent, Jayne Davies was keenly involved in choral music all her life, directing the Elizabethan Madrigal Singers while still a student, and later becoming chorus master of the Montgomery County Music Festival. As conductor of the Hafren Ladies Choir, she led the Choir to nine first places at the National Eisteddfod of Wales and two in succession at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod. Perhaps her most notable achievement was when the Newtown High School Girls Group won the Open Folk Song Competition at Llangollen in 1979 - still the only Welsh choir ever to have done so. In 2003, she was awarded the White Robe, the highest distinction of the Gorsedd of Bards of the National Eisteddfod, in recognition of her service and contribution to Welsh music.
