G Molyneux Palmer(1882-1957)
Geoffrey Molyneux Palmer was born in Staines, England and grew up at the vicarage of his father’s church, Holy Trinity, South Woodford. He was a pupil of Stanford at the Royal College of Music. Palmer studied under Stanford in the Brahms tradition at the Royal College of Music, but he suffered from multiple sclerosis even at Oxford where he gained the Mus.B. at the early age of nineteen. He settled in Ireland by 1910 where he worked as a church organist and wrote operas and choral pieces, many performed in Dublin. Ten years later he moved in with his two sisters in Dublin who ran a school for young ladies on British lines and were needed to look after him for the rest of his life.
