LOOK LITTLE LOW HEAVENS for trumpet in C
Oxford Contemporary Repertoire Series
The title of this unaccompanied work is excerpted from the poem æSpring' by Gerard Manley Hopkins. The text reads, in part:
Thrush's eggs look little low heavens, and thrush
Through the echoing timber does so rinse and wring
The ear, it strikes like lightnings to hear him sing.
The piece follows the arch-like shape suggested by 'low heavens' as two flanking, meditative sections surround a central, soaring fanfare.
