HUNDING
for solo horn in F
Oxford Contemporary Repertoire Series
A show piece for solo horn lasting about 4 minutes, Hunding is named after the brutish and bitter woodsman in Wagner's Valkyrie, memorable for the blood-curdling nature of his horn calls. Commissioned by the Endymion Ensemble, it was first performed by Stephen Striling in a concert celebrating Anthony Gilbert's 70th birthday in 2004. The subject matter and the occasion for which the work was written are, genuinely, unconnected!
