The Indian Queen was a play by Sir Robert Howard and John Dryden, first performed in 1664. In 1695 the play was expanded with additional music to create a new semi-opera of the same name by Henry Purcell. This well-known Trumpet Overture is from Act 3 and is arranged for orchestra by Lionel Salter.
Here it is scored for trumpet, timpani and strings. The trumpet part is in C; the work lends itself to be played on a trumpet in D.
In concert, some performers like to repeat the opening Maestoso section after the final Largo and this is shown as optional D.C al fine.
Originally published in 1947 by Oxford University Press, this new edition has been re-typeset but is otherwise unchanged.
A PACK comprises one full score, string parts 4/4/3/4/2, trumpet and timpani.

Duration about 3½ minutes
